Why does my ear feel blocked even after cleaning?
A blocked ear doesn’t always mean ear wax.
Many patients clean their ears with earbuds or cotton buds, yet continue to experience ear blockage or reduced hearing. In many cases, the problem lies deeper than the ear canal.
Possible causes include:
• Ear wax pushed deeper inside
• Fluid behind the eardrum
• Eustachian tube dysfunction
• Allergies
• Sinus infections
• Sudden hearing loss
Some people notice ear blockage after a cold, during flights, or while travelling to hill stations. Others experience it with allergies or sinus problems.
Avoid inserting cotton buds or sharp objects into your ear, as they can push wax further inside and even damage the eardrum.
If ear blockage is associated with hearing loss, pain, ringing in the ears, dizziness, or ear discharge, it is important to seek an ENT consultation promptly.
The good news is that most causes of ear blockage can be diagnosed easily with an ear examination and treated effectively.
Healthy hearing begins with healthy ears.
